# Creating a Template

Templates serve as a starting point or guide for developing new curriculum components. Once a template exists, curriculum creators can edit it to create new components. See [Editing a Template](/v1/docs/editing-a-template) to learn how to add content and tags.

> [!NOTE]
> **Note:**Only users with the **Create District Curriculum Courses** right can create templates.

## Quick Guide

1. Select **Templates**from the main menu.
2. Select the **New** button at the top of the screen.
3. In the **Template Title** field, enter a name for the template.
4. From the drop-down, choose the type of curriculum component that the template can be used to create.
5. Select **Create**. The blank template opens. Proceed to create the template according to the type of curriculum component you selected.

**Step 1:**Select **Templates**from the main menu.

**Step 2:**Select the **New**button at the top of the screen to open the **Create Template** window.

**Step 3:**In the **Template Title** field, enter a name for the template.

**Step 4:**From the drop-down, choose one of the following curriculum component types that the template can be used to create:

- Teacher Plan
- Course
- Unit
- Lesson
- Resource

**Step 5:**Select **Create**. The blank template opens. Proceed to create the template according to the type of curriculum component you selected.
