# Interactive Item Types FAQ

Below, you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about interactive item types.

## **General Questions**

**Do all student supports work with interactive item types?**

Yes, all [student supports](/v1/docs/student-supports-for-online-testing) work with interactive item types. Content clarifiers work with the question stem and cannot be created where you have used the **Add Placeholder Response** option to embed an answer choice.

**Can interactive item types be used on a math assessment?**

Yes! Check out [each interactive item type](/v1/docs/interactive-item-types-teis) for guidelines on including equations in question and answer choices.

**Are third-party item bank vendors' interactive item types be available for use on assessments?**

Yes, you can locate and [add third-party interactive items](/v1/docs/adding-item-bank-questions-to-aware-tests) to assessments by searching through a licensed vendor’s item bank. You can also edit these items as desired. Check out [which item banks are available and supported](/v1/docs/available-prebuilt-tests-and-item-banks) for our districts.

**Why are assessments with interactive item types not recommended for printing?**

Interactive items are questions created for an online environment. Printing this question type creates a different test environment and should not be directly compared to students who took the test online. Therefore, if a paper assessment is needed, it is best practice to create a paper version by rewriting interactive items as different question types. Tests with interactive item types can be printed as test booklets only and will show correct answers.

## **Scoring**

**Are questions either correct or incorrect? What if a student gets part of the question correct?**

Aware offers four types of scoring: point per task, partial credit, correct/incorrect, and dependency, the latter of which is available for multipart items only. [Penalty scoring](/v1/docs/selecting-scoring-methods-for-assessments#what-is-penalty-scoring) further applies to hot spot, multiple selection, and hot text items automatically when test authors assign partial credit or point per task scoring. Test creators can [adjust scoring options](/v1/docs/selecting-scoring-methods-for-assessments) when creating assessments.

**How can teachers modify and score student answers to a constructed response or text entry question?**

On the [**Enter Answers**](/v1/docs/using-the-enter-answers-feature) screen, teachers can score students’ constructed response answers and use the **Mark as Correct** button for text entry questions. **Mark as Correct** functions similarly to how teachers can modify a scanned bubble sheet and also helps preserve data integrity.

**How can teachers modify and score student answers to all item types?**

Under an assessment’s **Administration** tab, select **All questions** for the **Questions teachers can answer and score** setting.

**Is it possible to prevent teachers from modifying student answers for a constructed response or text entry question?**

It is not possible to prevent teachers from modifying student answers on constructed response or text entry questions.
