# Linking an Existing Lesson

If you need to add a lesson to a unit and the lesson already exists in Beacon, you can link the lesson to the unit. This is helpful when:

- You created the lesson before creating the unit.
- Another user created and shared a lesson that you want to use in your unit.
- You want to use the same lesson in multiple units.

## Quick Guide

1. Select **Courses**.
2. From the **Courses**list, select the course to which to add the lesson.
3. Open the **Unit**to which****you want to add the lesson.
4. In the **Lessons**section of the **Relationships** panel, select**Add**.
5. Select **Link Existing**.
6. Choose the lesson you want to link.
7. Select **Link Lesson**.

## Illustrated Guide

**Step 1:**Select **Courses**from the main menu.

**Step 2:**From the **Courses** list, select the course to which you want to add the lesson. Use the search and filter options to narrow down your search.

**Step 3:** In the **Relationships**panel, select the unit you want to add the lesson to.

**Step 4:** In the **Lessons**section for the selected unit, select **Add Lesson**.

**Step 5:**From the resulting drop-down, choose **Link Existing**.

**Step 6:**Select the lesson you want to link.

> **Tip:** Enter part of the title into the **Search by Title** field to view only components that match your search criteria. You can also use the drop-down menus to filter the list by **Subject**, **Grade Level**, or **Access Level**.

**Step 7:**Select **Link Lesson**. to confirm your selection. The lesson appears in the **Relationships** panel for the unit.
