# Linking an Existing Resource

If you need to add a resource to a course, unit, or lesson and the resource already exists in Beacon, you can link it. This is helpful when:

- You created the resource before creating the course, unit, or lesson.
- Another user created and shared a resource that you want to use in your course, unit, or lesson.
- You want to use the same resource across multiple courses, units, or lessons.

## Quick Guide

1. Open the course, unit, or lesson to which you want to add the resource.
2. In the **Resources** section of the **Relationships** panel, select **Add**.
3. Select **Link Existing**.
4. Choose the resource you want to link.
5. Select **Link Resource**.

## Illustrated Guide

**Step 1:** Open the course, unit, or lesson to which you want to add the resource.

**Step 2:** In the **Resources** section of the **Relationships** panel, select **Add**.

**Step 3:** From the resulting drop-down, choose **Link Existing**.

**Step 6:** Select the resource you want to link.

> **Tip:** Enter part of the title into the **Search by Title** field to view only components that match your search criteria. You can also use the drop-down menus to filter the list by **Subject**, **Grade Level**, or **Access Level**.

**Step 7:** Select **Link Resource**. to confirm your selection. The resource appears in the **Relationships** panel.
