Mastery allows educators to identify key groups of students and monitor their mastery of learning standards over the course of an academic year. Mastery empowers teachers to track student mastery of standards and permits administrators to set **Mastery Thresholds** and observe student progress.

The mastery tracker works with the following assessments administered in Aware:

- Local Test Types
- Rubrics

Mastery aggregates student data connected to learning standards and does not display data from test questions that aren’t aligned to standards.

A teacher with rostered classes or a user with an approved student access list can create mastery trackers. Users with the [View Student Tests](/v1/docs/viewing-assessment-data-as-a-teacher) right can view a teacher’s mastery trackers but cannot edit them.

In addition, teachers can set mastery levels manually or by selecting **Calculate Mastery** ( auto_awesome ), which automatically sets unassigned levels based on their district’s Mastery Thresholds.
