These requirements are intended to provide a reliable experience for teachers, students, and administrators, including during online assessment windows. ## Understanding "recommended" and "minimum" - Recommended requirements are the configurations expected to provide the most reliable experience and the best protection against disruption. - Minimum requirements are the lowest configurations Eduphoria supports. A device at the minimum may have less capacity for multitasking or other applications running at the same time. ## Support policy Eduphoria Support will make reasonable efforts to identify issues reported from unsupported configurations. To isolate and resolve a device- or browser-related issue, Support may require the behavior to be reproduced on a configuration that meets specifications in this article. Configurations that no longer receive standard vendor security updates are not supported unless this article explicitly identifies an exception. > [!NOTE] > **Note:** Stricter requirements apply when a workflow depends on third-party software, such as Respondus LockDown Browser, the device must meet both Eduphoria's requirements and the third party's current requirements. # 1. Supported operating systems | Platform | Recommended | Minimum supported | Important notes | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Windows | Latest supported release of Windows 11 validated by Eduphoria | Windows 11 on a vendor-supported edition and release | Windows S mode and Windows SE are not supported for LockDown Browser. Windows 10 is not part of the standard Eduphoria baseline. | | MacOS | Latest generally available MacOS release after Eduphoria validation | Latest MacOS still receiving updates from Apple | Intel and Apple silicon devices are supported when they meet all other requirements. | | ChromeOS | Latest Stable channel | Current ChromeOS Long-term Support (LTS) channel | The Chromebook must be managed when required for secure testing and must remain eligible for Google automatic updates. | | iPadOS | Latest generally available iPadOS release after Eduphoria validation | iPadOS 26 or later | iPad only. LockDown Browser availability also depends on the supported Eduphoria/LMS integration. | # 2. Hardware requirements | Component | Recommended | Minimum | | --- | --- | --- | | Available memory | 8 GB RAM or more | 4 GB RAM | | Display/Viewport | 1280 x 800 effective pixels or larger | 1024 x 768 effective pixels | | Processor | A currently supported processor appropriate for the operating system and expected workload | A processor supported by the operating-system vendor; no fixed clock-speed requirement | | Storage | Sufficient free space for operating-system updates, browser cache, and locally installed testing tools | At least the amount required by the operating system and any locally installed dependency | | Input | Physical keyboard and pointing device | Input method appropriate to successfully navigate Eduphoria applications | # 3. Web browser requirements Browsers must be able to receive vendor security updates. Eduphoria supports the current and immediately previous major releases of the browsers below on a supported operating system, subject to Eduphoria validation. | Browser | Supported platforms | Requirement | | --- | --- | --- | | Google Chrome | Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS | Current or immediately previous major release; preferred for general use | | Microsoft Edge | Windows and MacOS | Current or immediately previous major release | | Mozilla Firefox | Windows and MacOS | Current or immediately previous major release | | Apple Safari | MacOS and iPadOS | Latest version available for the supported operating system | The following browser capabilities must be permitted: - JavaScript - First-party cookies and required browser storage - Pop-up windows where used by an Eduphoria workflow - Downloads and file uploads where used - Camera and microphone access only when required by the selected assessment workflow # 4. Aware online assessment readiness A device that meets the general requirements may still be unsuitable for an assessment session if the network, device policy, or testing environment blocks required functionality. Before a testing window, districts should validate representative student devices from the same network and organizational unit that students will use. - Confirm the operating system and browser meet this article’s specifications. - Install required secure-testing software and extensions in advance. - Verify that device-management policies allow the required application or extension. - Confirm students can authenticate and launch a representative assessment. - Test embedded media, accessibility tools, calculators, text-to-speech, camera, or microphone features when applicable. - Close unnecessary applications and browser tabs on devices with minimum memory. # 5. Respondus LockDown Browser LockDown Browser is installed locally and has requirements that change independently of Eduphoria. Districts must use a current LockDown Browser release and confirm that their Eduphoria assessment integration supports the selected device type. | Platform | Respondus minimum reviewed July 2026 | Eduphoria baseline | | --- | --- | --- | | Windows | Windows 11 or Windows 10 build 19045 or later | Windows 11 | | MacOS | MacOS 12 or later | MacOS 25 or later | | ChromeOS | Current LTS channel | Current LTS channel; Stable recommended | | iPadOS | iPadOS 15 or later | iPadOS 25 or later | As of the July 2026 Respondus requirements, LockDown Browser requires 300 MB of free disk space on Windows or 400 MB on MacOS. Respondus lists 2 GB RAM, or 4 GB available RAM when an exam also uses a webcam. Eduphoria's 4 GB device minimum still applies. # 6. Network and district configuration District-wide internet speed alone does not determine assessment readiness. Concurrent users, Wi-Fi capacity, latency, packet loss, filtering, SSL inspection, and content size can all affect performance. Districts should perform a representative readiness test from each testing location. - Provide sufficient internet and Wi-Fi capacity for the expected number of concurrent users. - Allow all Eduphoria and required third-party domains. - Confirm content filters, proxies, and SSL inspection do not interrupt authentication or assessment traffic. - Test high-bandwidth content and assistive features when those features will be used. - Avoid operating-system, browser, or managed-device updates during active testing sessions. # 7. Scanning and exported files If a district uses the Eduphoria Aware Plain Paper Scanner application, it must confirm the current scanner application, supported Windows edition, scanner driver, available storage, and deployment method with Eduphoria before installation. Scanning requirements do not apply to general browser-based use. For more information on the Eduphoria Aware Plain Paper Scanner application, visit [Recommended and Supported Scanners](/v1/docs/recommended-and-supported-scanners). A current PDF reader may be needed for downloaded PDF files. A spreadsheet application capable of opening the exported file format may be needed for spreadsheet exports; these applications are not required merely to run Eduphoria in a browser. # 8. Support and maintenance rules - Eduphoria may validate a new major operating-system or browser release before listing it as recommended. - A configuration may be removed when it stops receiving standard vendor security updates, even if Eduphoria still loads. - Districts should not assume that technical compatibility with a third-party tool makes an operating system supported by Eduphoria. # Change log | Date | Change | Author | Reason | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | July 30, 2026 | Reorganized draft; removed legacy matrices; added lifecycle-based support policy and workflow-specific guidance. | RG | Prepare a maintainable Summer 2026 knowledge-base standard. | | August 27, 2026 | Minor revisions | RG | Edited based on team feedback | # Authoritative references - [Microsoft: Windows 10 reaching end of support](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/announcements/windows-10-end-of-support) - [Apple: Security releases](https://support.apple.com/100100) - [Google: Long-term Support on ChromeOS](https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/11333726?hl=en) - [Respondus: LockDown Browser computer requirements](https://support.respondus.com/hc/en-us/articles/4409607170459-What-are-the-computer-requirements-for-installations-of-Respondus-LockDown-Browser) # Recommended internal approval checklist ☐ Product/Engineering confirms supported browsers and required browser capabilities. ☐ QA validates the minimum RAM, display resolution, and representative student and teacher workflows. ☐ Security confirms the lifecycle-based operating-system policy and district-network language. ☐ Support confirms troubleshooting and reproduction expectations. ☐ Product owner confirms scanning terminology and current installation requirements. ☐ Knowledge-base owner assigns an effective date, review owner, and recurring review cadence. ## Related - [LockDown Browser FAQ](/lockdown-browser-faq.md) - [LockDown Browser for Chromebooks: Chrome Extension Administrator Guide](/lockdown-browser-for-chromebooks-chrome-extension-administrator-guide.md) - [LockDown Browser for Windows: Administrator Guide](/lockdown-browser-for-windows-administrator-guide.md)
