# Student Supports FAQ

This article contains the answers to questions commonly asked about student supports. Select a question below to reveal the answer.

**Why are a student's assigned supports not showing in the online test?**

This typically occurs if the supports were added to the student's profile after assessment entries for the test were generated.

**Can a teacher enable supports for an active online test?**

Yes, the teacher of record can manually enable the support in [Online Test Proctoring](/v1/docs/administering-an-online-assessment-teacher-proctoring-experience#managing-student-supports-for-an-assessment).

1. Select **Administer**from the main menu.
2. Navigate to the**Online Test Proctoring**tab.
3. Locate the assessment.
4. Expand the class container to locate the student.
5. Select the pencil icon under **Supports**.
6. Select the necessary supports.
7. **Save**your changes to activate the supports for the student.

**Can an administrator modify student supports instantly during testing?**

No, unless the administrator is the teacher of record, they cannot instantly modify student supports during testing.

**Is there an alternative way to fix missing student supports?**

- You can switch the assessment to teacher-proctored, which will allow the teacher of record to enable supports in [Online Test Proctoring](/v1/docs/administering-an-online-assessment-teacher-proctoring-experience#managing-student-supports-for-an-assessment). or
- You can delete and regenerate answer sheets for the specific student.

> [!CAUTION]
> **Warning:** Deleting answer sheets removes all of the student’s data associated with that test.

**Is there a way to clear all student supports?**

Yes, users with the **Manage Student Supports** right in Aware can assign and unassign testing supports in bulk using the importer. For more information, see [Managing Student Supports for Online Testing](/v1/docs/managing-student-supports-for-online-testing).

**When testing in Lockdown Browser, does spelling assistance show alternate spellings or word replacements?**

No, students using LockDown Browser will see misspelled words underlined in red, but LockDown Browser does not suggest alternate spellings or recommended word replacements.

**Why isn’t Speech-to-Text working?**

To use Speech-to-Text, you must first allow the microphone to access the browser. Learn how you can grant microphone permissions across your district and on students’ individual devices by viewing [LockDown Browser: Microphone Settings for Speech-to-Text on Chromebooks](/v1/docs/lockdown-browser-activating-speech-to-text).

Eduphoria's Speech-to-Text support is not supported when using LockDown Browser on iPad. To enable Speech-to-Text for LockDown Browser for iPad, use the iPad’s built-in dictation feature.

1. To enable dictation, go to **Settings**.
2. Select **General**.
3. Select **Keyboard**.
4. Turn on **Enable Dictation**.

When dictation is enabled on the device, a microphone icon appears in the on-screen keyboard. Tap the microphone icon to begin recording and converting to text. Additionally, if a Bluetooth keyboard is being used, a shortcut can be set to activate dictation.

**Why does a student have access to Text-to-Speech when it is not enabled in Eduphoria?**

The iPad’s built-in Text-to-Speech feature cannot be disabled by LockDown Browser. This means that all students can access Text-to-Speech on iPad regardless of whether Eduphoria’s Text-to-Speech support is enabled.

If you are experiencing issues with Text-to-Speech on Chromebooks, please check your configuration settings or reach out to a Google representative. Because districts manage Chromebooks in different ways, Eduphoria will likely be unable to assist with Text-to-Speech issues on managed Chromebooks.
