Please first read the main article on Custom Data Importers
The main components of custom data file importing are:
- Creation/management of a Custom Import Test Type
- Data File Management
- File importing (this article)
- Data viewing
Once Test Types and files have been managed, the files can be imported using the Custom Data Importer.
- Go to upload a new test as usual
- Check the box in the top for Custom Import
Next, you will enter the following details into the Custom Test Import tool-
- Pick the Test Type from the drop down.
- Pick the Grade Level.
- If multiple tested grade levels are included in the file (using the header “Test Grade”), choose “In File”.
- If every student record is for the same tested grade level, choose the appropriate option.
- Pick the Subject.
- If multiple tested subjects are included in the file (using the header “Test Subject”), choose “In File”.
- If every student record is for the same tested grade level, choose the appropriate option.
- Pick the School Year
- Name it - this is the Exact name the test will have in the assessment tree for data viewing
- If the file includes multiple grade levels and/or subjects, these do not need to be included in the test name
- Best practice: give the test a very specific name like “2017 Grade 3 BOY Nelson and Murdock Reading”
- Click Choose File, browse for the csv file, and open it
- Click Upload
- Next steps
- If the .csv is valid for importing, the screen will switch to the Pending Files section
- If the .csv is invalid, text will appear explaining what might be wrong
- After making changes to a file, be sure to use the SAME name that was attempted before
- Maintenance
- Custom imports will appear in the History tab along with every other imported file and can be treated the same (Delete Imported Data, Re-Import File, etc)
- Any additional files imported using the same name for a Test Type will:
- Add new student records for students not included in the previous file, and
- Replace existing student records for students that were included in the previous file
