Importing Additional Items into a Custom Item Bank

You can add more items to an existing custom item bank with a QTI package. You might need to add more items if any were missed during the import or simply to increase the number or variety of items in the bank.

Quick Guide

  1. Select the Item Bank Settings gear icon ( settings ).

  2. Choose Manage Custom Banks.

  3. In the Actions column for the bank you want to edit, select the Add plus sign icon ( add ), or if the bank is already open, select the More Actions ellipsis icon ( more_vert ) next to the item bank name and choose Import Items.

  4. In the Import Items window, upload the file from the file manager on your device and then select Next.

  5. Choose whether to Replace Existing Items and then select Next.

  6. Choose whether to Restore Delete Items and then select Next.

  7. Select Begin Import.

Illustrated Guide

Step 1: From the main menu, select the Item Bank Settings gear icon ( settings ).

Step 2: From the resulting drop-down menu, choose Manage Custom Banks.

Step 3: In the Actions column for the bank you want to edit, select the Add plus sign icon ( add ), or if the bank is already open, select the More Actions ellipsis icon ( more_vert ) next to the item bank name and choose Import Items.

Step 4: In the Import Items window, do one of the following to upload the file and then select Next:

  • Select Choose File. Then, locate and select the QTI package file from the file manager on your device.
    or

  • If the file manager is already open, you can drag and drop the file from the file manager window to the Drop the File Here to Upload space.

Step 5: Choose whether to Replace Existing Items and then select Next:

  • Select Yes, replace all existing items to replace items from an old package with items from the new package that have the same item ID.

    Warning: This action cannot be reversed.

    or

  • Select No, skip existing items to skip uploading items that use the same item ID as items that already exist in the bank. This means that existing items are not replaced with new versions.

Step 6: Choose whether to Restore Delete Items and then select Next:

  • Select Yes, restore all items from this package regardless if they have been deleted restore items. This action restores all items in the package, regardless of whether they were previously manually deleted from the item bank.

    Caution: This does not restore deleted items that were imported from packages that are not associated with this new import package.

    or

  • Select No, skip previously deleted items to skip items that have previously been deleted when item IDs match. If an item was previously manually deleted from the bank, that item is not replaced with a new version.

Step 7: Select Begin Import.

The validation process checks that the file is in a valid format. Once confirmed, the import process begins. Importing items, especially for large item banks, takes time, so the import continues to run in the background, allowing you to leave the page and come back later to check on the import’s progress.
