Eduphoria applications require devices, browsers, and networks that meet the standards in this article. These requirements are intended to provide a reliable experience for teachers, students, and administrators, including during online assessment windows.
Understanding "recommended" and "minimum"
Recommended requirements are the configurations expected to provide the most reliable experience and the best protection against disruption.
Minimum requirements are the lowest configurations Eduphoria supports. A device at the minimum may have less capacity for multitasking or other applications running at the same time.
Support policy
Eduphoria Support will make reasonable efforts to identify issues reported from unsupported configurations. To isolate and resolve a device- or browser-related issue, Support may require the behavior to be reproduced on a configuration that meets specifications in this article. Configurations that no longer receive standard vendor security updates are not supported unless this article explicitly identifies an exception.
Note: Stricter requirements apply when a workflow depends on third-party software, such as Respondus LockDown Browser, the device must meet both Eduphoria's requirements and the third party's current requirements.
1. Supported operating systems
2. Hardware requirements
3. Web browser requirements
Browsers must be able to receive vendor security updates. Eduphoria supports the current and immediately previous major releases of the browsers below on a supported operating system, subject to Eduphoria validation.
The following browser capabilities must be permitted:
JavaScript
First-party cookies and required browser storage
Pop-up windows where used by an Eduphoria workflow
Downloads and file uploads where used
Camera and microphone access only when required by the selected assessment workflow
4. Aware online assessment readiness
A device that meets the general requirements may still be unsuitable for an assessment session if the network, device policy, or testing environment blocks required functionality. Before a testing window, districts should validate representative student devices from the same network and organizational unit that students will use.
Confirm the operating system and browser meet this article’s specifications.
Install required secure-testing software and extensions in advance.
Verify that device-management policies allow the required application or extension.
Confirm students can authenticate and launch a representative assessment.
Test embedded media, accessibility tools, calculators, text-to-speech, camera, or microphone features when applicable.
Close unnecessary applications and browser tabs on devices with minimum memory.
5. Respondus LockDown Browser
LockDown Browser is installed locally and has requirements that change independently of Eduphoria. Districts must use a current LockDown Browser release and confirm that their Eduphoria assessment integration supports the selected device type.
As of the July 2026 Respondus requirements, LockDown Browser requires 300 MB of free disk space on Windows or 400 MB on MacOS. Respondus lists 2 GB RAM, or 4 GB available RAM when an exam also uses a webcam. Eduphoria's 4 GB device minimum still applies.
6. Network and district configuration
District-wide internet speed alone does not determine assessment readiness. Concurrent users, Wi-Fi capacity, latency, packet loss, filtering, SSL inspection, and content size can all affect performance. Districts should perform a representative readiness test from each testing location.
Provide sufficient internet and Wi-Fi capacity for the expected number of concurrent users.
Allow all Eduphoria and required third-party domains.
Confirm content filters, proxies, and SSL inspection do not interrupt authentication or assessment traffic.
Test high-bandwidth content and assistive features when those features will be used.
Avoid operating-system, browser, or managed-device updates during active testing sessions.
7. Scanning and exported files
If a district uses the Eduphoria Aware Plain Paper Scanner application, it must confirm the current scanner application, supported Windows edition, scanner driver, available storage, and deployment method with Eduphoria before installation. Scanning requirements do not apply to general browser-based use. For more information on the Eduphoria Aware Plain Paper Scanner application, visit Recommended and Supported Scanners.
A current PDF reader may be needed for downloaded PDF files. A spreadsheet application capable of opening the exported file format may be needed for spreadsheet exports; these applications are not required merely to run Eduphoria in a browser.
8. Support and maintenance rules
Eduphoria may validate a new major operating-system or browser release before listing it as recommended.
A configuration may be removed when it stops receiving standard vendor security updates, even if Eduphoria still loads.
Districts should not assume that technical compatibility with a third-party tool makes an operating system supported by Eduphoria.
