Beacon Rights

This article explains the rights that can be granted to provide users with specific levels of access in Beacon, including what each right allows users to do in the system.

Rights are the permissions assigned to users that determine which actions they can perform within the system. Assigning rights allows system administrators to control who can create, edit, view, or manage different aspects of the platform. For more information about roles and rights, see Setting User Roles and Rights.

Only users with the Manage Users right can grant rights to other users. To grant rights to another user, access the Users screen in Management, search for and select the user from the Users list, and then navigate to the Rights tab. Select the checkbox for each right you want to assign to the user and then click Save.

Create District Curriculum Courses

What does this right do?

The Create District Curriculum Courses right allows users to create curriculum components, templates, and strategies for the entire district and to share private courses across the district. Users with this right have full access to all courses across the district.

Users who do not have this right can create curriculum components but cannot share them with the entire district. However, they can contribute to a district-level curriculum component if the course creator shares it with them and assigns the necessary contributor level.

Who should get this right?

Assign this right to curriculum leaders at the district level or any district leader who should have access to creating district-level curriculum content, such as Curriculum Managers, Curriculum Directors, or Curriculum Coordinators.

Analyze Curriculum Courses

What does this right do?

The Analyze Curriculum Courses right grants users access to the Analysis section of Beacon, which includes the Scope and Sequence analysis tool. With this right, users can assess standards coverage across preps for all courses across the district or for their assigned schools.

A green checkmark indicates that the user can view analysis data for all schools at the district. A green square indicates that the user can only view analysis data for certain schools. Select the plus sign icon next to the right to add or remove schools.

Who should get this right?

Assign this right to any user who needs to monitor standards coverage. For example, you might assign school-level access to Principals, Assistant Principals, or Team Leads and assign district-level access to district-level Curriculum Managers, Curriculum Directors, or Curriculum Coordinators.
