LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment. When students use the locked browser to access an assessment, they cannot print, copy and paste, go to another URL, or access other applications. Students are locked into an assessment until it is submitted for grading.
The Eduphoria LockDown Browser for Chromebooks app that can only be run in kiosk mode when the Chromebooks are centrally managed with Chrome Device Management.
Any testing support that functions on Chromebooks will work with LockDown Browser enabled.

The value is the starting URL for your school’s student login page.
To locate the starting URL, log in to Aware and navigate to an active assessment. Under the Administration tab, there is a Student Login URL. We have recently changed Student Login URLs in Aware, so be sure your administrators have updated your district’s Student Login URL link. Copy and paste the link into the URL space above.
Step 7: Select Save.
The Eduphoria app will now appear on the login page of the managed Chromebooks.
Blocking External URLs in the Chromebook Kiosk Mode App
Respondus, the third-party software provider responsible for LockDown Browser, has confirmed that the ChromeOS kiosk mode does not take into consideration any account-level domain blocking. This means students can use kiosk mode on their Chromebook to access sites like YouTube that are normally blocked when they log in with their user account.
To prevent students from accessing other sites while in the Chromebook kiosk mode app, specify which URLs are blocked and add any necessary exceptions through Google’s admin console.
In the Google admin console, block domains using the following steps:
- Go to Menu > Devices > Chrome > Settings > Device.
- Go to the Kiosk Settings section and scroll to URL Blocking.
- Block access to any external domain navigations that are not desired.
This is where you can block sites like "eduphoria.net", "support.eduphoria.net", "youtube.com", and "Google.com" to ensure students can't go to any other sites while testing.
Adding links to the URL Blocking list will only block those sites for ChromeOS kiosk apps, not all Chrome users or others outside of kiosk mode. Google Support’s Help Center provides more detailed steps concerning the Google Admin Console.
